Welcome to the Ranch

Principal’s Message

I am excited to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year and join Rancho Alamitos High School as your Principal!  It is an honor to join a community of educators who are dedicated to ensuring that you are successful and connected throughout your high school career.

I look forward to continuing Rancho’s commitment of being an inclusive and supportive learning community dedicated to embracing academics, leadership, diversity, and lifelong success.  We are committed to providing a rigorous and supportive education that is grounded in our District’s 3 Goals.  Students at Rancho Alamitos will gain the Academic Skills needed to find success in the classroom, they will build their Personal Skills and become creative and critical thinkers with a drive to persevere, and they will be ready for Lifelong Success by being college and career ready.

Student engagement in the arts (visual and performing), athletics, clubs, and activities is essential for student success. Students at Rancho will find various opportunities to explore their interests.  We encourage you to get involved in one of these opportunities as soon as possible.  If you are unsure of what opportunities you want to explore, our staff is here to help you connect with something that interests you.

In every classroom, our teachers are committed to delivering high-quality, challenging, and engaging instruction in a way that motivates you to think critically while supporting you as an individual.  Rancho Alamitos also offers a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses in various subjects.  At Rancho Alamitos High School, we want each of you to develop a personalized plan that will guide you toward your educational and career goals. We are here to help you take the right steps to stay on track for graduation and set you up for success after high school.

We know that family involvement is important for student success.  Throughout the school year, there will be various opportunities for our families to become involved at Rancho.  We are looking forward to working alongside our families in support of our students.

We want your four years at Rancho Alamitos High School to be an amazing experience that prepares you for life after high school.  Take advantage of every academic and extra-curricular opportunity that is available to you. We are here to support you throughout your journey.  Have an amazing year, Vaqueros, and I look forward to working with all of our students and families during your time at Rancho Alamitos High School.

History of the School

Rancho Alamitos High School opened its doors in 1957. Its name means ranch of the little cottonwoods and is an acknowledgement of the Hispanic heritage of this area. The forty acres of the Rancho Alamitos High School campus was part of the original Rancho Los Nietos (grandchildren), circa 1784. Later, the land was divided among many family members into smaller Ranchos. In the 1950’s, the Garden Grove Union High School District purchased the land from the Evans family. Construction of Rancho Alamitos High School began in 1956 and was nearly complete by 1957. There were two homes on the property facing Dale Street. The homes belonged to the Evans and Miller families and were located just north of the faculty parking lot. The homes were used as classrooms until construction was completed in 1959. Rancho Alamitos first opened for grades nine through eleven on the Garden Grove High School campus during the fall of 1956. In the spring of 1957, the Rancho Alamitos campus officially opened under the direction of the first principal, Mr. Don Kennedy. The first senior class graduated in the spring of 1958 under the principalship of Mr. Richard Bivin. In 1960, Mr. Sam Chicas was principal and was succeeded by Mr. Vic McClain (1961). Rancho’s next principal was Mr. William Zogg (1964), followed by Mr. Tracy Strong (1966), Mr. Ron Forsyth (1976), Mr. Jim DeLong (1982), Mr. Bob Mesa (1985), Mr. Tom Robins (1991), Mr. Gene Campbell (2000), Mr. Frank Mackay (2006), Ms. Mary Jane Hibbard (2009), and our current Principal, Ms. Linda Giuliani.
